The establishment of the first One Stop Center in Djibouti, funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation and implemented by UNFPA, marks a significant step forward in the response for gender-based violence in Djibouti.

The One Stop Center provides a comprehensive range of medical, psychological, and legal services directly addressing GBV and all centralized within a referral medical structure. Since December 2023, the center has provided capacity building to 20 health providers and assisted 83 survivors of GBV. Through the digital platform for Gender Based Violence Information Management, launched under the UNFPA program, 445 cases were recorded nationwide since August 2023, and 83 cases recorded from the One Stop Center within 3 months.

The significance of the center is underscored by its location, where a high prevalence of GBV has been identified. In 2019, 43,7% of violence survivors reside in this area. Moreover, the One Stop Center serves as a secure space for survivors, filling the gap in the absence of shelters for women and girls’ victims of violence. It represents a scaling up of national response capacities by adopting an integrated approach based on Human Rights principles and centered on survivors' needs.

The One Stop Center initiative revitalizes the health sector’s capacity for organizational coordination and operational standards. It sets the stage for further expansion and duplication in other referral hospitals in Djibouti marking a significant progress in the national response to GBV.
