« In the isolated locality of Galina in Tadjourah, being a pregnant woman often meant anxiety and concern. Journeys to healthcare centers were long and difficult, and the costs of healthcare were often an insurmountable burden for many of us. However, thanks to the community health fund, a glimmer of hope illuminated my pregnancy and childbirth.

Since 2021, UNFPA-Djibouti has strengthened and supported community mutual aid in landlocked rural areas. Women in our community came together to fund this initiative, ensuring that all who needed it could access essential prenatal care. Each month, we contributed collectively ensuring that no one was left behind. Regular visits to the doctor allowed me to closely monitor my health and that of my baby, giving me the peace of mind needed to focus on my well-being.

When the big day arrived, I was taken to a well-equipped health center, where I was cared for by professionals. I safely gave birth to my child. This experience showed me the strength and solidarity of women in our village, and the importance of supporting each other's health and well-being.

Today, holding my baby in my arms, I am grateful to the community health fund that made this possible. Not only did they improve access to healthcare for us women, but they also strengthened our community by allowing us to approach pregnancy and motherhood with greater peace of mind. »
