The Ministry of Women and Family and the Ministry of Muslim Affairs, in partnership with UNFPA, organized a symposium for religious leaders.

It was held with financial support from the European Union as part of UNFPA and its partner's efforts to end FGM and better informed all, including religious leaders on the harmful consequences of this practice on women and girls.

25 religious leaders participated in the discussions that focused on Islam’s refusal to practice and called for the protection of human health. The symposium ended with a decision to create an inter-religious exchange network, which goal is to achieve the total and definitive abandonment of FGM. The religious leaders made a regional declaration for the abandonment of FGM.
