A major step towards improving the quality of maternal and neonatal care the maternity and neonatology unit of the “CHEIKO” Hospital in Balbala has been the subject of an assessment of the quality of maternal and neonatal care, as part of a project supported by UNFPA with funding Italian Cooperation.

The results of this evaluation audit led to the development of a plan to improve the quality of care by the hospital team supported by an international consultant.

The main axes of the improvement plan are:

• Improvement of the circuit of the parturient
• Individualization of an intensive care unit of the mother, and the newborn
• Strengthening care management through the development and implementation of care management tools
• Improvement of the use of information by developing a dashboard to drive performance
