On the occasion of the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence (GBV) campaign, UNFPA joined forces with the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) and young activists from the association for interregional development (ADIR).

This event organized in Tadjourah, on December 5, 2022, saw the participation of local authorities and more than 100 young people from the region. The ceremony was also marked by the signing of a partnership agreement between the ADIR association, the CNDH and UNFPA.

This tripartite partnership aims to strengthen the community mobilization actions of the ADIR association in its awareness-raising actions and referral of cases of Human Rights violations to protection services in specific cases of Gender-Based Violence. GBV” with technical support from UNFPA for national and international advocacy.

The opportunity to offer a space for expression and action to the young people of ADIR is an accomplishment of the axes of the UNFPA youth program by expanding the commitment of young people against all forms of Gender-Based Violence , including FGM. Especially since the ADIR youth group is an association of young activists from the Tadjourah region committed to the promotion of sexual and reproductive health rights, notably through a group of dynamic peer educators who carry out prevention and guidance for survivors of GBV including cases of FGM and early marriage.

The terms of partnership between the CNDH and ADIR are guided by the need to link civil society with the CNDH which, thanks to its mission, must ensure the support and protection of human rights defenders who are the young people of ADIR.
