On 16 May, the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with UNFPA jointly celebrated International Day of the Midwife under the theme ‘100 Years of Progress’ and International Day of the Nurse under the theme ‘Nursing as a Voice for Leadership: Investing in Nursing and Respecting Rights to Ensure Global Health’. The Ministry of Health made a commitment to strengthen maternal and newborn health care through good governance, equitable coverage of quality care delivery, and rigorous monitoring through a health information system contributing to universal maternal and newborn health coverage in order to achieve the SDGs by 2030. UNFPA reiterated its commitment to the Ministry of Health to end preventable maternal and newborn deaths by contributing to the implementation of the new National Strategy for Accelerated Reduction of Maternal and Newborn Mortality 2022-2026.
