Given the critical role grandmothers play in decision-making within their families, UNFPA and UNFD held a workshop to launch a Grandmothers’ Club to help end the harmful practice of FGM on 28 November. The club is formed of 30 grandmothers who are committed to promote the total abandonment of FGM in the neighborhoods of Djibouti-Ville and its surrounding areas. The club will coordinate awareness-raising and training sessions on the causes and harmful effects of FGM. The workshop was an opportunity to introduce the Grandmothers’ Club to policymakers.
