UNFPA closed in December 2019, a project for the empowerment of vulnerable adolescents and young girls, initiated with the National Union of Djiboutian Women (UNFD).
This project reached 400 adolescents and young girls who study at the second chance school of the UNFD including vocational training. The project introduced a model that encourages girls to discover themselves, connect, and take action to improve their situation, through information sessions on sexual and reproductive health including FGMs, early marriage, and peer counseling.
At the end of this project, Hanan, one of the young participants said "I know that with what I had the chance to learn in this training I can now follow or at least know the health risks to whom I can be exposed and I can also help or advise in my turn young people like me and I know that women can say no to the violence to which they are exposed every day in their homes and that justice can protect them”.
