As part of the capacity building of implementing partners for the joint UNFPA / UNICEF FGM program, a communication strategy for sustainable behavior change for the abandonment of FGM in Djibouti was developed by the Country Office and UNFPA regional office and presented under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Women and Family on November 18, 2018, in Djibouti.
This strategy uses communication as a vector for changing social behavior with respect to these harmful practices by identifying three key actors driving change, young girls' leaders, religious leaders, and traditional leaders.
This strategy has 4 key components that are as follows; community mobilization, administrative mobilization, interpersonal communication, and advertising.
This communication strategy will be followed by a training of catalysts in the regions to reach 2 declarations of abandonment of communities committed to the fight against FGM.
